Choosing a plan

Which home maintenance membership is actually worth it?

They all get called a “membership.” They're not the same thing. Figure out your actual problem before you look at a single price.

These are the real, published prices as of September 2026. If a company won't post a number, I say so instead of making one up.

What each one's actually selling you

Lowe's HomeCare+

$99 a year

Cheapest thing on this list, and at least it's honest.

  • Two visits a year for the stuff you keep putting off.
  • Won't fix anything that's actually broken.
  • The guy works the paint aisle, not a toolbelt. And he's gonna pitch you supplies.

Honey Homes

Visit packs

Best version of the visit model, hands down.

  • Full-time handymen who actually learn your house.
  • Five years in, still three cities. Hiring a crew per market is slow.
  • Lucky enough to live there? Great. Everybody else is out of luck.

Upkeep and regional visit plans

$59.99 a month

Same visit model, fixed number of visits.

  • Simple math: don't buy six if you're not gonna use six.
  • Count your list first.

Home warranties

Premium plus service fee

Totally different animal wearing the same name.

  • Doesn't maintain anything. Pays part of a repair after you cough up a service fee.
  • Their guy, their timeline. Read the exclusions, they'll surprise you.
  • Makes sense if your AC's twelve years old and you can't replace it outright.

Angi, Thumbtack, HomeAdvisor

Free, because the pros pay

You're not the customer here. You're the product.

  • Your request gets sold as a lead, to three or four guys at once.
  • That's why your phone blows up inside the hour.
  • Fine for window shopping. Does nothing about the actual headache.

Domas & Co.

Free for homeowners

I've lived on both sides of this door. So I built what I actually wanted.

  • Send the job. See the price before anyone gets dispatched.
  • A pro who cleared a Checkr background check and carries real insurance shows up and does the work.
  • You pay for the finished job, after a 48-hour window to flag any problem.

Real talk, Domas isn't for everybody. Want the same guy every week grinding through a list? That's a visit plan, Honey Homes does it better in their cities. Want repairs covered? Buy a warranty. Like vetting contractors yourself? The directories are free, go for it.

Here's the one rule that cuts through all of it: if a company won't tell you the price of your job before someone shows up at your door, you're still doing the coordinating. That's the exact thing you were trying to pay your way out of. See how Domas works, or apply as a pro.

Common questions

Is a home maintenance membership worth it?

Depends what you're buying. Visit plans only pay off if you actually use every visit. Warranties only help for whatever they cover. Domas is worth it once you're done finding and babysitting contractors yourself.

Warranty or membership?

Not the same thing at all. A warranty pays toward a repair. A membership gets the work done, period. Plenty of houses run both. Plenty need neither.

How is Domas different from Angi or Thumbtack?

They hand you a list of names and leave you to do the calling, quoting and scheduling. Domas skips all that: tell us the job, we price it, a vetted pro shows up in your window, and you pay for the finished job after a 48-hour window to flag any problem. Free for homeowners, up to four properties. Pros pay us a small cut instead of buying leads.

Consider it handled.
