DomasPrice first. One vetted pro.

In May, Angi's CEO told shareholders the company spent 30 years on the homeowner's problem of finding a pro, and is now shifting its focus to the pro's problem of winning work. It froze features on its legacy platform to move people onto an AI-first rebuild. Angi says it isn't abandoning homeowners, and it's still free to use. But when a company tells Wall Street which side it's building for, believe it.

So if you used Angi to find help around the house, here's where else to go, and what each one is actually good at.

The alternatives, by what you want

Domas & Co.

Free for homeowners

Best when you want it handled, not shopped.

  • Describe the job and see the price before anyone is dispatched, so you can say yes without a single phone call.
  • One background-checked, insured pro shows up in the window you picked.
  • Payment sits in a 48-hour review window, so you can flag a problem before the pro is paid.

Thumbtack

Free to search

Best when you like collecting quotes and picking your own guy.

  • Pros in every state, with reviews and estimates side by side.
  • You message, compare and hire, so the vetting and scheduling are on you.
  • Pros pay for leads, which is the cost they have to earn back.

TaskRabbit

Hourly help

Best for small, hourly jobs: furniture assembly, mounting, moving help.

  • You pick a Tasker and pay their hourly rate.
  • On top of that, clients pay a service fee and a trust and support fee, each a percentage of the hourly rate.
  • Less of a fit for licensed trade work like plumbing or electrical.

Oply

Free app

Best if your main problem is keeping track of your house.

  • Reminders, project lists and a home history you build over time.
  • Finds pros too. Pros join through Jobber, the scheduling software a lot of trades already use.
  • A strong record keeper. You still do the choosing.

Real talk: if you enjoy shopping three quotes, Thumbtack does that well and it's free. If you're done shopping and just want the sink fixed, that's the gap Domas was built for.

One question picks the right app: do you want options, or do you want it done? Options, go Thumbtack or Angi. Done, join Domas free and send the next job, so you can stop chasing callbacks. Already have a pro you trust? Add them in the app and they get your jobs first.
